Deepika Padukone to play Draupadi in ‘Mahabharat’
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh has confirmed that Deepika Padukone will play the iconic role of Draupadi in Mahabharat. Deepika has also teamed up with producer Madhu Mantena to co-produce this project. This is Padukone’s second project as a producer as she is already producing Chhapaak, story of an acid attack survivor.
However, this film will be made from Draupadi’s point of view, so it is clear that this is going to be a one-woman show. Deepika sure has a lot to offer both as an actor and a co-producer. Mahabharat will be a multi-part series of films. The first part has been scheduled to release on Diwali 2021.
While talking about the film Mantena said, “while we have all consumed the Mahabharat all our lives, the uniqueness of our film is seeing the same story from the point of view of Draupadi, who is one of the most significant heroines in our country’s cultural history.” He also added, “Deepika is not just the biggest Indian actress today, but someone who can take this narrative across borders. If it weren’t with her, we would not be making this film on such an ambitious scale.”
Deepika is also thrilled to make Draupadi alive by her act, she said, “I’m absolutely thrilled and honoured to be essaying the role of Draupadi. I truly believe that it is the role of a lifetime. While the Mahabharat is popularly known for its mythological tales and cultural influence, many of life’s lessons are also derived from the Mahabharat but most often from its men. Telling it with this fresh and new perspective will not only be interesting but also very significant.”
This will surely be an interesting take on Mahabharat as we will see the mythology from Draupadi’s eyes, from a woman’s view precisely.
