Disney aims for ‘Avatar’ record with ‘Avengers: Endgame’ re-release
Just being $50 million away from toppling Avatar’s domestic box office record, after a $3.51 million weekend brought Avengers: Endgame to global gross of $2,742,491,359, must have been agonizing for Marvel. Avatar’s global gross of $2,787,965,087 still holds the record as Marvel’s cinematic phenomenon slowly started to fade away under the weight of other summer releases. But Marvel isn’t giving up yet as it plans to re-release the movie with extended footage that didn’t make it into the initial film, according to reports by Screen Rant and Comicbook.
Both the sources quoted Marvel Studios head honcho Kevin Feige who confirmed that Marvel is going to re-release Avengers: Endgame for one last push and shot at the top spot. Talking to Comicbook.com at a press junket for Marvel’s upcoming release Spider-Man: Far From Home, Feige had this to say about the re-release, “We are doing that. I don’t know if it’s been announced. And I don’t know how much… Yeah, we’re doing it next weekend.”
Screen Rant’s interview with Feige shed more light on the project as he elaborated, “Not an extended cut, but there will be a version going into theatres with a bit of a marketing push with a few new things at the end of the movie. If you stay and watch the movie, after the credits, there’ll be a deleted scene, a little tribute, and a few surprises. Which will be next weekend.”

But the “next weekend” part remains ambiguous as no date has been divulged. With Toy Story 4 releasing the next weekend, it would be a stretch to say its this next. So will it be the 4th of July when no matter whether you run from it or dread it, Disney still arrives?
